My 9 Somethings for May

Have you ever had a bird laugh at you?

I swear the other morning a bird was cackling at me while I wrote. It was rude.

Anyhow. Not relevant.

I lived another month! Isn’t that fantastic?

Something Painful

I have a lot of random hobbies I’ve picked up throughout the years (claymation, flag dancing, horse riding, sketching, piano). Some hobbies last. Most don’t.

Wood carving was one that didn’t last too long. However, last month I got the urge to pick up my wood carving tools again.

I was in the process of hollowing out a little canoe with one of my gouges when I decided to discard the age-old advice associated with knife-wielders. In other words, I decided to carve toward my hand instead of away from it. Read more

My Somethings for March

Hey friends!

I hope Edward’s invasion last week didn’t throw you off. 😉 To get back to some sense of normality, here are my Somethings for March!

Something Bittersweet/Exciting

See that little badge? It has a long, bittersweet story.

Near the end of February, I learned that Kingdom Pen’s editor and chief, Josiah DeGraaf, was wishing the site farewell.

Ugg. That…that was not expected. It threw the writing team for a loop. Until that announcement, I didn’t realize how much KP’s fantastic leader affected the site and the writing team’s work. Read more

My 15 Somethings for Januaryish (Part 2)

Hey friends!

Here is the second part of my Somethings, as promised.

Something Sad

I’m all alone.

My sister headed back to college last month. Cedarville isn’t too far away, but it still feels weird. We’ve been together my entire life, and now she’s gone. *sniffs* Gone!

Ok, maybe I’m being dramatic, but still. Darn growing up.

Something Deep

I had an article published by KP that hit pretty close to home. Many writers struggle with comparison and placing their worth in how well they write (including yours truly). In the article I wrote, I addressed these harmful patterns. I can honestly say this is one of my favorite articles that I’ve written.

My 15 Somethings for Januaryish (Part 1)

Much has transpired since my last Somethings. So much, in fact, that I had to split this Something into two parts.

Actually, I was simply too lazy to edit the entire post before sending it to my editor/error checker. But it is a really long piece, so it worked out.

Buckle up, ladies and gentlemen. The last two months were a bumpy ride. Read more

Why I Quit College (and What I’m Doing During my Gap Year)

As you guys know, in August I became a Visual Communications Design student at Cedarville. As a lot of you don’t know, I left last month with no intention of completing the rest of the year.

My choice to leave Cedarville has nothing to do with the school itself. Cedarville is fantastic. I’ve learned things and met people I will never forget.

My decision has everything to do with writing. If college has taught me anything, it’s that I am a writer, not a graphic designer. In my opinion, it is pointless to spend thousands of dollars pursuing a major I don’t want to use after college. Read more
